Uni­versity Pro­fessor - salary grade W 3

in the field of "Data Com­mu­nic­a­tions and Net­work­ing".

Work­ing field:

Research and teach­ing in the area of com­mu­nic­a­tion net­works, sys­tems and pro­to­cols with emphasis on at least one of the fol­low­ing fields:

  • Sys­tem and pro­tocol aspects of net­work sys­tems: net­work cod­ing, cach­ing, dis­trib­uted stor­age in net­works as well as coex­ist­ence of het­ero­gen­eous wire­less sys­tems
  • Archi­tec­ture and design (e.g. includ­ing the­ory and algorithms for optimal resource alloc­a­tion, com­bin­at­or­ial/ dis­trib­uted optim­iz­a­tion, mod­el­ling and per­form­ance ana­lysis, queuing the­ory, game the­ory, graph the­ory)
  • Net­work­ing sys­tems (e.g. includ­ing soft­ware- hard­ware co-designed archi­tec­tures, net­work devices, soft­ware radio test­beds, low-power embed­ded sys­tems, proof of concept based on exist­ing air Inter­faces)
  • Wire­less net­works espe­cially real- time net­works for Cyber Phys­ical sys­tems (e.g. body/on body net­works, sup­port­ing eHealth applic­a­tions, vehicu­lar net­works)

Proven achieve­ments in both the­or­et­ical and exper­i­mental research is required. Close cooper­a­tion with research groups in related fields such as com­mu­nic­a­tions, inform­a­tion the­ory, embed­ded sys­tems, dis­trib­uted sys­tems, video com­mu­nic­a­tion, machine learn­ing, data­base, and net­work secur­ity is expec­ted. The teach­ing assign­ment includes courses on net­work pro­to­cols and dis­trib­uted sys­tems, com­mu­nic­a­tion net­works, net­work­ing tech­no­logy, per­form­ance eval­u­ation of com­puter net­works, both in the Bach­elor degree pro­gram and in the Mas­ter degree pro­grams offered by the Fac­ulty IV - Elec­trical Engin­eer­ing and Com­puter Sci­ence.

Ber­lin offers a rich research envir­on­ment in the field and related areas includ­ing sev­eral non-uni­versity research insti­tutes, such that a wide range of research col­lab­or­a­tion oppor­tun­it­ies is pos­sible.

Require­ments:

Can­did­ates should ful­fil the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­pleted aca­demic edu­ca­tion, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (PhD), post-doc­toral teach­ing (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions.
Fur­ther­more, we expect

  • proven expert­ise in the­or­etic and exper­i­mental research and a solid pub­lic­a­tion record in at least one of the above-men­tioned tech­nical fields;
  • teach­ing exper­i­ence and com­pet­ence in the man­age­ment of a work­ing group.

Applic­ants are reques­ted to sub­mit a first concept of the research and teach­ing activ­it­ies envis­aged with their applic­a­tion. Evid­ence of exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion of external fund­ing is desir­able.
