Work­ing field:

Rese­arch wit­hin the ERC pro­ject DIS­TRUCT of the Logic and Seman­tics rese­arch group in the area of struc­tural and algo­rith­mic graph the­ory focus­sing on struc­ture the­ory and dir­ec­ted graphs.

Require­ments:

Suc­cess­fully com­ple­ted uni­ver­sity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in Com­puter Sci­ence or Math­em­at­ics; PhD is desir­able but not a pre­requis­ite. App­lic­ants must have a strong inte­rest in the­or­et­ical com­puter sci­ence and are requi­red to have a strong back­ground in struc­tural and algo­rith­mic graph the­ory, espe­cially graph minor the­ory. In par­tic­u­lar, the app­lic­ant is expec­ted to work in a part of the DIS­TRUCT pro­ject where low genus sur­face embed­dings of dir­ec­ted graphs and algo­rith­mic app­lic­a­tions are stud­ied. There­fore the can­did­ate should have a pro­found know­ledge of topo­lo­gical graph the­ory and algo­rith­mic prop­er­ties of graphs embed­ded on sur­faces as they are for example stud­ied in graph minor the­ory. Know­ledge of dir­ec­ted graph the­ory is bene­fi­cial.
